Bruce A. Beachnau, DVM, was a senior veterinarian for the Pfizer Animal Health Dairy Veterinarian Operations team. With years of experience as a private-practice owner and technical services veterinarian, Beachnau provided technical support to Pfizer representatives as well as practitioners and producers in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Puerto Rico. In this role he developed herd health protocols for dairies as large as 18,000 head. He also served as a Pfizer liaison to key influencers as well as veterinary and animal science universities in many parts of the United States.
Dr. Beachnau graduated from the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1967. He purchased a solo practice in Portland, Mich., following graduation and over the next 13 years built it to a four-practitioner, mixed-animal practice. In 1980, he accepted a position with The Upjohn Company as a technical services veterinarian where he supported sales representatives in the dairy, swine, beef, poultry and companion animal fields. He was promoted to senior veterinarian with Pfizer in 2003.
In addition to publishing numerous journal articles, Dr. Beachnau also was involved in the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and is vice-chairman of the National Residue Avoidance Committee of the National Mastitis Council.
Beachnau is a native of Westphalia, MI and was raised on his family’s dairy farm. In his spare time, he enjoys hunting small and big game and waterfowl, fishing, golfing and listening to music.
